Tutorial 6 of 6
Export, credits and sharing
Intermediate 6 min
Render a WAV or MP3 of your scene, keep the attribution with it, share a link without audio and hand audio to and from other apps.
Export audio
Open File → Export audio….
- Set Length (minutes) — 15 seconds (0.25) up to 10 minutes.
- Choose a Format:
- WAV (16-bit, rendered in your browser), or
- MP3 192 kbit/s (converted by the site’s audio converter) — the WAV is sent to the usefulweb.site audio converter and the MP3 comes back. Files on the server are deleted after about two hours. MP3 works for WAV files up to 60 MB (about five minutes at 44.1 kHz).
- Press Render.
The scene is rendered in your browser: generated layers from their seeds, recordings decoded from Wikimedia Commons, with the same envelopes, room and sleep timer as the live player. The sample rate comes from Export sample rate in the Studio (22.05, 44.1 or 48 kHz). The status line counts the recordings it loads, then reports “Done: … MB.”
If a recording cannot be loaded, the export still finishes and names the layers it had to leave out.
Keep the credits
After rendering, press Download credits. The text file starts with “This scene uses N recordings:” and lists one line per recording in the order title, author, licence (with its link) and source page — the Creative Commons recommendation. If any recording is CC BY-SA, the file reminds you that a mix containing it must be shared under CC BY-SA too. Generated layers need no credit.
You can also open File → Credits and attribution… at any time to copy or download the same text.
Save and share the scene
- File → Save scene file (Ctrl+S) writes a
.soundscape.jsonfile; Open scene file… (Ctrl+O) opens it again. - File → Share link… creates a link that contains the whole scene — references to recordings and the parameters and seeds of generated layers, never audio. Whoever opens it hears the same scene: recordings load again from Commons, generated layers are rebuilt exactly. Imported audio stays in your browser and is not part of the link; the dialog tells you when that happens.
- Signed-in users can save to and open from Google Drive in the top bar.
Work with other apps
- In the export result, Open in another app… hands the rendered audio to another premium app, for example to cut or convert it in Reelcraft.
- File → Send scene file to another app… hands over the scene file.
- The other way round, audio sent from Tonegrid or Reelcraft opens in Soundscape Atlas as a new Imported audio layer. You can also use Add layer → Import an audio file…. Imported audio is stored only in this browser.
The engine behind it
Every generated sound comes from one audio engine that also runs the standalone tools soundscape-noise-generator, soundscape-ambience-generator, soundscape-spectrum-analyzer and soundscape-reverb, and the recording search runs through soundscape-recording-search — all available as JSON API and MCP tools for AI agents.
